What is G7 coffee

G7 is Vietnam's most recognizable instant coffee, made by Trung Nguyên Legend — the company modern Vietnamese coffee industry is built around. Here is where G7 came from, how it differs from ordinary instant coffee and which format to pick.

Where G7 came from

Trung Nguyên launched the G7 brand in November 2003 with an ambition to build a world-class Vietnamese instant coffee and push back against international corporations — first at home, then on export markets. The plan worked: today G7 sells in dozens of countries, and in Vietnam it is the number-one instant coffee.

G7 is produced in Buon Ma Thuot, the coffee capital of Vietnam in Dak Lak province — the same place where Trung Nguyên grows and roasts beans for its ground blends. The raw material is Vietnamese robusta from the Tay Nguyen plateau; why that matters for taste is covered in our robusta vs arabica guide.

How G7 differs from ordinary instant coffee

Most instant coffee is made from cheap harvest leftovers, with the taste assembled from flavourings. G7 takes a different route: its base is the same robusta that goes into Trung Nguyên ground blends — so the drink keeps the recognizable Vietnamese profile: density, dark chocolate and real strength instead of a thin watery cup.

Hence the main rule: G7 is not "coffee-on-the-run instead of coffee" — it is the full Vietnamese taste, just without the phin and the five-minute wait.

The formats

  • G7 3-in-1 — coffee, creamer and sugar in one sachet. The most popular format: add 80–100 ml of hot water and it is ready;
  • G7 black (2-in-1 and pure) — for those who drink it without milk: coffee only, with strength closer to a brewed cup;
  • G7 Gold — the premium line with a denser profile;
  • Cappuccino formats — with hazelnut and chocolate flavours.

The full available range is in the instant coffee section. The easiest place to start is the classic 3-in-1 — the taste G7 is known for.

How to spot the original

Like any popular product, G7 gets counterfeited — usually with blurry print on the packaging and no Trung Nguyên manufacturer marking. The reliable way to avoid guessing is to buy from the official distributor: we ship G7 directly from the factory, with certificates accompanying every batch.

Frequently asked questions

Is G7 coffee or a coffee drink?

Coffee. The base of G7 is Vietnamese robusta, roasted and processed at the Trung Nguyên factory in Buon Ma Thuot. The 3-in-1 formats add creamer and sugar; the black formats are coffee only.

How strong is G7?

Noticeably stronger than typical instant coffee: it is based on robusta, which carries 2.2–2.7% caffeine — nearly double arabica's. One 3-in-1 sachet per 80–100 ml cup is enough.

How do I prepare G7 properly?

A 3-in-1 sachet takes 80–100 ml of hot (not boiling) water. For the Vietnamese way, make the iced version: dissolve in a small amount of hot water and pour over ice. Black formats can be dosed to taste.

Where can I buy original G7 in Tashkent?
